The Water View, a Maine painting

After embracing larger sized paintings, the 9 inch by 12 inch size I worked in for years seems so small. This painting was inspired by a trip to midcoast Maine and Rockland in particular. So the painting—it’s a slice of the landscape, mostly just this big sweep of grass, all these soft greens and faded yellows that kind of blur into each other, like the wind’s been brushing through for hours. That’s really the heart of it—the grass. It takes up most of the space and gives the whole thing a quiet, almost meditative vibe. Not much going on at first glance, but it pulls you in the longer you look.

Then there’s the fox, enjoying the sun, and the ocean, way in the background, a thin strip of blue.  You can tell it’s Maine by the color of the patch of sky.

The whole thing is like catching someone else’s moment—like the fox knows something you don’t and you’re just borrowing its perspective for a minute.

This painting is available for $700.00 Please contact me if you are interested in adding this to your collection.
