The Flung Spray, 12 inches by 16 inches, pastel on paper

I never set out to do a painting about a specific topic. I paint what I’m called to, and I’m interested in symbolism, so sometimes it’s after the fact that I try to figure out what it’s about. Seeing motifs that repeat themselves can take years. Lately it’s birds, which can be a bit scary if you find one in your house. Sometimes, it’s funny - but that’s a painting for another time. Very few soft pastels on this one - in fact one Sennelier and a couple of Faber Castells - which seem to me to be a hybrid hard/soft,  Prismacolor hard pastels  and Faber Castle pencils.
