Prevailing Winds, 12 inches by 16 inches, pastel on paper

This 2023 painting is a scene from Vero Beach, Florida. I was inspired by the moody atmosphere,  and this was probably the first time I incorporated line work into the sky. I’ve been studying 19th century etchings for a while now and I’m captivated by the spare use of line to depict the elements. While I don’t use line in quite the same way, I find it brings the sense of urgency and energy I’m looking for. In this painting I used only Prismacolor Nupastels.
