A couple of people mentioned how reminiscent my painting of a couple weeks back, The Lonely Chair, was of a Van Gogh  painting of a similar chair. I hadn’t had him in mind at all but I’ve been seeing a lot of paintings by 19th and early 20th century Scandinavian painters, plus a few American artists who inspired me to continue with this exploration. While I was intrigued by the light hitting the chair in my first painting, I was captivated by the lost edges in the shadows of the second.
